Josefa Black Velvet Bed – Deep Colour, Built-In Storage, Made to Your Size

The Josefa is a black velvet divan bed you build room by room, not size by size. Pick crushed or plush velvet, decide how tall you want the headboard, add an ottoman lift or gas-lift storage base, and choose whether you need a mattress in the box. Prices start at £320 for a single 3ft frame, rising to £370 for a super king. Every option is priced upfront, so there’s no guessing at checkout.

Crushed or Plush – Two Ways to Wear Black Velvet

Black velvet reads differently depending on the pile. Crushed velvet catches light unevenly, giving the headboard a slightly rumpled, jewel-box texture that photographs well against pale walls. Plush velvet lies flatter and more uniform, closer to the look of a tailored, upholstered headboard. Both sit alongside Coniston, Naple, boucle teddy and faux leather on the Josefa’s fabric list, but for anyone searching specifically for a black velvet bed, these are the two finishes worth comparing swatches on before ordering.

Built Around How You Actually Use the Room

Sizing and Headboard

Choose from single 3ft up to super king 6ft, with headboard height added in 10cm steps (up to +40cm) if you want more to lean against when reading. A split headboard, delivered in two pieces, is available for £20 more – useful for tight staircases or loft conversions.

Storage That Matches the Base

Skip storage for a lower profile, or add an ottoman end-lift base (£180) that opens the full footprint of the bed, or a gas-lift base (£120) for a lighter daily lift. A footstool and matching ottoman box can be added in the same black velvet.

Mattress, Sorted in the Same Order

Seven mattress options are listed against the bed itself, from a soft-to-medium memory foam spring hybrid up to a 3000-pocket pillow-top, so the mattress doesn’t need a separate order or a second delivery slot.

 Styling a Black Velvet Bed

Black velvet holds a room together rather than dominating it. Brass or antique gold hardware on bedside tables lifts the black without fighting it; a pale bouclé or linen throw softens the formality if the rest of the room is already dark. In smaller bedrooms, the ottoman storage base earns its keep by taking the place of a chest of drawers.

FAQs

Does the Josefa come in more than one black finish?

Yes – Crushed Velvet Black and a separate Plush Velvet Black, both selectable in the colour dropdown on this page.

Can I add storage without changing the mattress I already own?

Yes, the storage base and mattress are chosen independently, and “no mattress required” is one of the listed options.

What’s the difference between the two storage bases?

Ottoman end-lift storage opens the whole bed on a hinge for full-length access; gas-lift storage is a lighter mechanism suited to lifting more often.

Is assembly included?

Assembly is a separate delivery option, added at checkout alongside standard or room delivery.
